Elevate your overdrive to bold new heights with the Electro-Harmonix Spruce Goose! This remarkably amp-like overdrive begins with a circuit inspired by a pedal famous for its bluesy breakup, then bolsters the formula with an upgraded 2-band EQ and a “Lift” switch. Essentially an input boost, the Lift switch supplies three different gain levels to goose the front of this pedal’s drive circuit, from a mild amp-like saturation to screaming high-gain theatrics. Plus, the Spruce Goose’s true-bypass switch hides a secret function under the hood: By holding down the footswitch, the Spruce Goose lifts off with a gust of extra drive and boost to embolden any lick or solo. When it comes to tube-like tones and overdrive versatility, the Electro-Harmonix Spruce Goose rules the roost.
Lift off with three levels of input boost
The Spruce Goose’s 2-band EQ and dynamic, amp-like voice grant a sweeping sonic palette of tones, but this pedal’s true versatility lies in its 3-position Lift switch. This switch boosts your input signal before hitting the drive circuit, effectively providing the Spruce Goose with three distinct levels of gain. On the lowest setting, the Spruce Goose retains an incredibly tube-like feel and response. However, each successive notch unlocks greater saturation and authority, with the third position supplying a soaring high-gain richness that transforms even the mildest 6-string into a veritable fountain of sustain and saturation.
Step up with a momentary blast of gain
So, your big solo is coming up, and you need some extra heat to send your sound into the stratosphere? Just hold down the Spruce Goose’s footswitch for a rush of extra gain and output! Guitarists love how this handy little function provides a surprising degree of hands-free dynamic-shifting potential, making it a cinch to momentarily impart a touch of extra heat to a particularly poignant lick or crowd-pleasing solo.
