In the studio or on the concert stage, the Black Lion LS-4 is one of those devices that can make a world of difference — once you see what it can do, you'll wonder how you ever got along without one! This discreet, concise line selector lets you connect a stereo source and then send it to up to three other devices. You can send the same source signal to all four destinations simultaneously or in any other possible combination. The possibilities are enticing. For example, passive monitor switching with subwoofer toggle, headphone distribution, parallel effects routing, and beyond; plus, since it's a totally passive design, it won't color your tones whatsoever. Finally, with a steel enclosure and an anodized black aluminum faceplate, this unit is ready for the road.
Monitor controller
As a monitor controller, it's hard to top the Black Lion LS-4, especially at this price point. Connect three pairs of studio monitors to outputs A, B, and C, and then connect your subwoofer to output D. For quick A/B'ing back and forth between multiple monitor pairs, the LS-4 constitutes an impressive, inexpensive solution.
Headphone distribution
Many audio interfaces only have one headphone out; this can make it difficult for multiple people to listen or collaborate without tediously passing headphones back and forth. The LS-4 swiftly solves this problem. Connect the headphone output of your interface to the LS-4’s input, and then connect all LS-4 outputs to your headphone amps. Voilá!
Audition effects chains and parallel routing
The LS-4 is particularly useful for guitarists, bassists, and keyboardists: run a dry signal into its inputs and then connect different effects processors to outputs A-D. Next, connect your processor outputs to your audio interface inputs and press buttons A-D to audition how the different effects processors affect your dry signal. Likewise, this same configuration also lets you record these four parallel processed signals into your DAW at the same time!
